Pre – installation Preparations

Another important part of pre – installation is power supply. Different mining equipment runs on different power sources. Some might need electricity, and you gotta make sure the power grid can handle the load. If it’s a remote site, maybe a generator is the way to go. But then, you have to figure out where to place the generator, how to fuel it, and how to connect it safely to the equipment.
Unloading the Equipment
Once the site is all prepped, it’s time to get the equipment off the trucks. This is a pretty delicate process. You need the right lifting equipment, like cranes or forklifts. The operators of these machines have to be really skilled. They need to know how to lift the mining equipment without causing any damage.
For example, when we’re unloading a big drilling rig, we have to make sure it’s lifted from the right points. There are usually specific lifting eyes or hooks designed into the equipment for this purpose. If we lift it from the wrong place, it could bend or break parts of the rig. Assembling the Equipment
Now comes the fun part – putting all the pieces together. Most of our mining equipment comes in parts that are shipped separately for easier transportation. We start by laying out all the components and checking if anything is missing or damaged.
Let’s take a conveyor belt system as an example. First, we attach the frames of the conveyor. These frames provide the structure that holds the whole system up. We use bolts and nuts to secure the frames to each other and to the foundation on the ground. Then, we install the rollers. The rollers are what the conveyor belt runs on, so they need to be installed evenly and at the right height.
After the rollers are in place, we put on the conveyor belt itself. This can be a bit tricky because the belt has to be tensioned correctly. If it’s too loose, it won’t move the materials properly. If it’s too tight, it can cause excessive wear on the belt and the rollers. We use special tools to adjust the tension until it’s just right.
For more complex equipment like a crushing plant, we have to assemble multiple units. There’s the crusher itself, as well as the feeder that supplies the raw materials to the crusher. We also have to connect all the pipes and electrical wiring. The electrical connections are super important. A wrong connection can lead to a short – circuit, which might damage the equipment or even pose a safety hazard.
Testing and Calibration
Once the equipment is assembled, we can’t just start using it right away. We need to test it thoroughly. First, we do a visual inspection to make sure all the parts are properly installed and there are no loose bolts or wires.
Then, we start a series of test runs. For a pump, we turn it on and check if it’s pumping fluid properly. We measure the flow rate and the pressure to make sure they’re within the specified range. If something’s off, we need to troubleshoot. It could be due to a blockage in the pipes, a misaligned impeller, or an electrical issue.
Calibration is also a key step. For example, in a measuring device used in mining, like a level sensor, we need to calibrate it so that it gives accurate readings. We use known standards to adjust the device until it’s providing precise measurements.
Safety Checks
Safety should always be a top priority during and after the installation. We need to make sure all the safety guards are in place. These guards protect the workers from moving parts, such as the blades of a crusher or the moving belts of a conveyor.
We also check the emergency stop buttons. They should be easily accessible and in working condition. In case of an emergency, workers need to be able to quickly stop the equipment. And we test the fire suppression systems if the equipment has them. A fire in a mining area can be extremely dangerous, so these systems need to be ready to go.
Training the Operators
Finally, we provide training for the people who are going to operate the equipment. They need to know how to start and stop the equipment correctly, how to monitor its performance, and how to do basic maintenance tasks.
